    Old Fashioned Bread Dressing

    Source of Recipe

    nanamitchem

    List of Ingredients

    • 1 loaf bread (I buy a couple days early)
    • 1 stick butter
    • 1 cup chopped celery
    • 1 cup chopped onion
    • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
    • 1 teaspoon sage
    • 1 cup broth (you can add a little more after you get it mixed up and it doesn't feel wet enough)
    • Salt and pepper, to taste

    Instructions

    1. Cut or tear bread into small pieces the night before and cover with a towel.
    2. Melt butter in skillet and add celery and onion and cook until the onion is clear and celery has softened. Cool until it is only warm, not hot. Pour the butter, onion and celery over bread. Add the salt, pepper, sage and poultry seasoning. Pour the broth over all in the bowl and mix well. You probably will have to add a little more broth or milk if you don't have any more broth. Mix with your hands until it is nice and moist and mixed well. Put in a baking dish of choice and bake at 350 degrees for atleast an hour. I use a deep dish as we like ours moist. If you use a shallow pan you will get a drier dressing and crispy on top and sides.
    3. Hope this helps and it is easy to double or triple depending on the size crowd.
