    List of Ingredients


    • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds beef stew meat
    • 1 to 2 onions, diced
    • 1 cup water mixed with 1 beef bouillon cube or 1/2 envelope onion soup mix
    • 2 large potatoes, pared and thinly sliced
    • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1 cup cheddar cheese
    • Topping: bread crumbs or crushed chips


    Instructions


    1. Brown meat with onion in 2 tablespoons of oil. Drain some off. Add water to mixture; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 50 minutes.
    2. Pour meat into a 13x9 baking dish; arrange potato slices on top. Stir together soup, sour cream, milk and salt and pepper; pour over potatoes. Sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese and bread crumbs. Bake uncovered 1 1/2 hours or until potatoes and meat are tender.
