    Preheat oven 350F. Baking Time: 1/2 hour. Makes 2 loaves.


    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
    • 1 cake yeast
    • 2 cup scaled milk
    • 2 1/2 TBS. sugar
    • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 2 1/2 TBS. shortening
    • 6 1/2 cup flour


    Instructions


    1. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup lukewarm water and add 1 tsp. sugar. Let stand 10 minutes. To lukewarm milk add remaining sugar and salt. Add dissolved yeast to milk mixture.
    2. Next, add flour and shortening. Mix well and turn out on a floured board. Knead dough until it becomes elastic and does not stick to board. Place in a greased bowl, cover, allow to rise until double in bulk.
    3. Punch down. Cover. Allow to rise a second time until double in bulk in bowl.
    4. Remove from bowl, punch down and cut into 2 equal halves.
    5. Shape into loaves and allow to stand 20 minutes. Cover with a floured towel. Then flatten out each loaf and re-shape loaves.
    6. Place in greased pans and allow to rise until double in size or until, when pressed with a finger impression does not disappear. Bake.
