HOT CROSS BUNS
List of Ingredients
1 package yeast
1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 cup scalded milk
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup currants (washed well)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter (melted)
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs,beaten
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
Recipe
soften yeast in lukewarm water.Scald milk and add sugar,salt and butter.Cool
milk to lukewarm and add 1 cup flour and spices.Beat well.Add softened yeast
and eggs,beat well.Add remaining flour to make a thick batter.Beat
thoroughly until smooth.Cover and let rise until double in bulk.Punch
down,add currants let rise again.Drop by spoonfuls into greased muffin pans
filling half full.Let rise until double in size.Bake in moderate oven,mix
confectioners sugar with a little hot water and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and
mark a cross on each bun.
