STH: Charleston Casserole

"Strictly Shrimp," by A.D. Livingston
1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp -- heads removed
1 cup milk
1/2 cup green onions -- with part of
-- tops, chopped
1/2 cup red bell pepper -- chopped
3 slices good white bread
2 large eggs -- whisked
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons fresh parsley -- chopped
1 tablespoon dry sherry
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper -- freshly ground
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon mace
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. and butter a 2 1/2-quart casserole dish suitable for serving.
Remove the crusts from the bread and discard them. Cut the bread into pieces and soak in the milk. Remove heads, peel, and devein the shrimp. Mix all the ingredients (except the butter) in a bowl.
Turn the mixture out into the casserole dish, smooth it out, and dot it with the 2 tablespoons of butter. Place in the center of the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the top is nicely browned. Serve hot directly from the baking dish.
