Tamale Pie

Filling:
1 sm onion -- chopped
3 cloves garlic -- minced
2 c tomato sauce
4 c canned pinto beans -- or red beans
1 can olives -- sliced
1 can corn
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
4 tbsp cornmeal
Crust:
1 c cornmeal
1 tbsp flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 egg -- lightly beaten
1/2 c milk
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp green chiles -- optional
1/2 c grated cheddar cheese
Simmer together fillng ingredients (except cornmeal). After simmering, thicken with the 4 tbsp. cormeal (you may need a little more). Pour into 3 qt. casserole dish. Mix crust ingredients (except for cheddar cheese). Top filling with crust mxture, then sprinkle cheese over. Bake at 350F until bubbly and crust is lightly browned, about 30 minutes.
