    Recipe is famous around MS and over 160 years old.

    List of Ingredients




    1 egg

    2 c. flour

    1/4 c. buttermilk

    1 tsp. vanilla

    1 c. sugar

    3 Tbsp. Crisco

    1 tsp. baking soda


    Fill dough tray with plain flour. Make a hole in center and add the above ingredients. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk before adding. Add shortening last. work or mix with fingers, gradually mixing flour from sides of tray until dough is stiff enough to handle. Add 1 tsp. nutmeg to dough. Roll out, cut and place on cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 350, If woodstove, 15 minutes.
