Green Tomato Pickle

7 1/2 lbs. green tomatoes
5 yellow onions
1/2 cup coarse salt
2 lbs sugar (2 cups white, 2 1/2 cups brown)
2 cups white vinegar
1 tblsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tbsps. mixed pickling spice in bag
1 tbsp. celery seedRecipe
Wash and cut tomatoes and onions. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Let stand 1 hour. Rinse in cold water and drain well.
Place remaining ingredients (except tomatoes and onions) with 1 tsp. salt in a large kettle. Simmer over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Add vegetables and boil together.
Remove from heat and seal immediately.
