    1/2 pound ground beef
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1 can (6-ounces) tomato paste
    1 can or bottle (12-ounces) beer
    1 can (16-ounces) kidney beans, undrained
    1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons chili powder
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1 teaspoon garlic salt
    1/2 teaspoon oregano

    Lightly brown ground beef and onion in a heavy medium saucepan; cook until onion is soft.

    Add tomato paste and beer; stir up brown bits.

    Add remaining ingredients. Cook slowly uncovered 10 to 15 minutes, or until onion is tender. Add a little water, if needed.

    Makes 4 servings
