    MEXICAN CHILI (NORTH DAKOTA STYLE)

    1 lb. hamburger
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 tbsp. chili powder
    1/4 tsp. ground cumin
    1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
    1 med. onion, minced
    2 tbsp. olive oil
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
    1 (1 lb.) can pintos (with juice)

    Heat oil in large skillet. Brown onion then add garlic at the last minute. Brown meat, breaking up into small pieces. Add chili powder, salt and cumin. Stir. Add sauce and tomatoes with juice, mashing up tomatoes with back of spoon. Bring to a boil then simmer for 30 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally. Add beans with juice. Simmer, covered, for 15 to 20 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Serves 4 to 6. (Freezes well.)
