    Spicy Swiss Steak from Kathy


    1 1/2 tsp salt
    /2 tsp ground allspice
    1/4 tsp pepper
    2 lb round steak (1 inch thick)
    1/3 cup all purpose flour
    3 Tbsp shortening
    1 medium onion, minced
    3 cups canned whole tomatoes

    Recipe





    Rub salt, pepper, and allspice into steak. Sprinkle flour over steak. Heat shortening in a heavy casserole
    . Brown meat on both sides. Add onions and tomatoes. Cover and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Check occasionally for moisture. If necessary, add a little hot water or tomato to prevent sticking.

    Makes about 6 servings.
