Recipe Introduction
I tried this recipe because my stepdaughters are Portuguese. They said it tasted just like their Avo's. This recipe is from the Azores that was brought over in 1896. I changed it slightly to cook in a crock pot.
List of Ingredients
1 large can of pinto beans
1/2 pkg linguisa
3/4 lb of ground round
1/2 lb bacon
1 sm red onion, chopped
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1 t minced garlic
1 t cumin
1/4 t cinnamon
1/2 t allspice
1 bay leaf
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper
Recipe
Add pinto beans to crock pot. Fry linguica until cooked through. Add linguisa to beans leaving oil in skillet. Saute onion and garlic in linguisa oil until onion is translucent. Add to beans. Cook ground round, drain, & add to beans. Fry bacon until almost crisp, drain, & add to beans. Add remaining ingredients and cook on low for 2 hours or more.
