    Frances's Fabulous Spareribs

    Recipe Introduction

My 12 year old son told me that he loved this sauce.

    List of Ingredients

4-5 lbs. spareribs (I actually used country style beef ribs)
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    1 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
    1 c. ketchup
    1 c. bbq sauce
2/3 c. dark karo syrup (actually called for cane patch or alagra syrup, but said that dark karo could be substituted)
    1/3 c. chopped onion
1/3 c. chopped green bell pepper
    1 tb. lemon juice
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (I used a bit less to our taste)

    Recipe

Separate ribs into individual pieces. In 6 qt pot, cover the ribs with water. Add the salt and pepper. Bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 40 min. (I put mine in a large deep skillet and cooked them on top of the stove with a lid on them). While meat cooking, prepare the sauce by combining vinegar, ketchup, bbq sauce, syrup, onion, bell pepper, lemon juice, and red pepper flakes in saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered 10 min. Remove from heat. Preheat oven to 400*. Drain ribs and place on 10x15" baking pan. Pour sauce over the ribs and turn to coat. Bake for 20 min, covered with foil. Turn the ribs and bake, uncovered, for 20 min longer (instead of using the over, I poured off the broth from my large skillet, and poured the bbq sauce over the meat in the skillet, cooking 20 min. with lid, and 20 min with lid off.)
