    Physically, the human body has many nerve endings that follow the path of the spinal column. The brain and the spine are connected and from there these nerve endings run throughout the body. As you massage, your touch brings the blood to the skin's surface, you speed the absorption of the aromatherapy lotions or oils into the skin, and bring up the level of oxytocin, a hormone needed in high levels for the process of sexual arousal.

    The nurturing, pampering aspect of romance is extremely important between two people involved in an intimate relationship. You will have more interesting and intensely erotic experiences if you're involved on all levels with each other. The combination of scent, touch, candlelight, and soft music is extremely effective in opening up intimacy between two people to more deeper levels. Your goal in a relationship is to be able to connect not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well.

    A body massage is something that almost everyone can relate to as a positive experience. Most men know that by taking the time to give their lady a full body massage it will often lead to great sex afterwards. There is just something about a body massage that makes the recipient feel pampered and in a relaxed, mellow mood open to more intimacy.

    Using aromatherapy lotions or oils will make it quite a different, exciting, sensual experience that can result in evoking passion. It is said that even the most frigid person will respond to jasmine oil. Lavender is also a very good essential oil to use for relaxation, as is rose and vanilla. I prefer the essential oil lotions to the oils as the lotions are not as greasy and do not stain your sheets as much as massage oils.

    Begin the body massage by selecting some soft sensual music to play. I recommend Jackie Gleason's CD, "Music For Lovers Only." All men should have this CD in their collection as it really relaxes a woman. Light some scented candles or turn on very soft lights. Make sure lit candles are not in a position to burn or damage anything. Never leave a candle unattended! Have the bed turned down. Let your partner take a warm, scented bubble bath and after drying off with a fluffy towel, lie down on the clean sheets. Pour a small amount of your chosen aromatherapy lotion or oil into one of your palms. Rub the lotion or oil between the palms of both your hands to warm it up before it touches your partner's skin. Cold lotion or oil poured onto a naked back will quickly produce double the amount of tension as was there before you began so you will have defeated your purpose of relaxation.

    Below are some basic massage techniques and suggestions to relieve tension that can be very effective. Tension tends to build and accumulate in the neck, shoulders, buttocks, and upper and lower back areas in both genders. The balls and soles of the feet can harbor tension as can the scalp and earlobes.

    With your partner lying face down, straddle or kneel at their side. Gently press down on your partner's shoulders, and on either side of the spine. Do not ever press directly on the spine at any time during the massage. This stroke gives your partner a few moments to adjust to the feeling of your hands being upon their skin.

    Warm your partner up to the massage. With a flat hand, fingers together, palm in contact with the skin, move your hands up either side of the spine, then out and across the shoulders, and down the sides of the body.

    Working as deeply as is comfortable for your partner, use your fingers and hands to knead the muscles of the back, starting with the neck and shoulders and working your way down the body. Work slowly and use additional lotion or oil as is necessary for smooth movements with your hands. If at any time your hands start to pull, you need more lotion or oil.

    Spread your fingers keeping them somewhat stiff, and rake them down the back from the shoulders to the buttocks. This will release deep tissue tensions.

    The downward-pointing triangle located between the buttocks at the end of the spine can become congested and tender in premenstrual women. Lightly massage this area with small, circular strokes on buttocks, hips and upper thighs. For a man, use lower back spirals. Starting at the top of the crack between the buttocks use your thumbs to make small spirals upwards along either side of the tailbone to the top of the sacrum, then press your thumbs along the top of the hips and move them out, across and down the side of the body to the floor. Repeat several times.

    For the buttocks try these massage techniques. Starting at the bottom, press both your thumbs firmly into the flesh of the buttocks and follow the curve up, around, and down the side of the hips. This can be a tender and sensitive area, so use only as much pressure as your partner can tolerate. Return to the first position and move your thumbs apart slightly to form a curved line that is parallel to and outside the first, continuing until you have no curve left to follow. Repeat several times. Or imagine the buttocks are dough balls and knead them for several minutes with your fingers and hands. This releases a lot of pent-up tension.

    Don't forget the arms, hands, legs and feet! Massage each of the fingers and arms using your fingers and hands. Be very careful with the feet and toes as many people are very sensitive on their toes and soles of their feet. If they cannot trust you to not tickle them, there will be more tension than is worth it. Assure them you will not tickle them and that you will be gentle. Use your thumbs to work on the soles, using light to medium pressure. Massage each toe with your fingers. The heel and ball area can have a lot of tension also so work on them for a few minutes, not forgetting the sides of the heels.

    Once you get to your partner's thighs, you may find yourself getting distracted and decide to shift your focus to other kinds of caresses. Lightly brushing the inner thighs with the tips of your fingers is very sensual. You can also use feathers, your hair, a feather duster, a very soft brush, or a soft glove to give different sensations to the body. Try batting your eyelashes over the face and see how erotic that feels.

    You might want to try out some massage strokes of your own. You can ask your partner to turn over and continue the massage with a few more strokes to the front of the body.

    Kneeling behind your partner, as he or she is lying face up, press down on the shoulders and hold. Ask your partner to take a few deep relaxing breaths, and let the essential oils or lotions work their magic as you increase the pressure of your hands slightly. Slide your hands up and over your partner's collar bone and press very gently. Have them take a deep breath as you hold, then release. Now move your hands between the breasts laying one hand over the other, press very gently. Have your partner take a deep breath and release it. Pinch and roll each nipple between the thumbs and index fingers. This works for both genders. A woman's breasts are highly charged with erotic energy and can create a dramatic arousal response when massaged or caressed, but a man's breasts can be trained to feel erotic sensations also.

    Encourage your partner to breathe in a deep and relaxing manner as you gently massage their neck, making small circles on the upper neck and up to the earlobes. Work on the earlobes and the ears with small soft pinching fingertip massage.

    If the massage is a prelude to lovemaking, now is a really good time to let the kissing begin.
