Recipes for Amish Peanut Butter Spread like Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana, IN
1) In one of my Amish Cookbooks, is this recipe:
1 lb peanut butter
1 qt light Karo
2 c pancake syrup
1 c marshmallow topping
Mix all ingredients together. If too thick, add warm water to make it the right consistency.
In the recipe above with just the syrup, marshmallow, and peanut butter, I wonder why that has to be refrigerated. I don't refrigerate any of those ingredients.
2) Just love their spread!! So I searched around and the closest I found was this (and it is good) ENJOY!:
Amish Peanut Butter
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup water
1 jar peanut butter -- (18 oz.)
1 jar marshmallow creme. -- (8 oz.)
Boil first 4 ingredients together for 2 minutes, cool then add peanut butter and marshmallow creme. Stir until blended. Serve with crusty homemade bread.
Note: May want to substitute maple syrup and or corn syrup for molasses.
3) Here is a recipe that I use to make the peanut butter spread. The Blue Gate is my favorite place to go when in Shipshewana. Enjoy!
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup marshmallow creme
1 cup light corn syrup
In a mixing bowl, stir all the ingredients together till combined. Place in a covered container. Store in refrigerator. Bring to room temperature to serve as a bread spread or ice cream toper. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
4) susanne, I don't know if this is what you're looking for. I found it at amish-cook.com Jenni
I believe you are referring to the Amish church "peanut butter-marshmallow crème spread?" I asked Elizabeth about this yesterday, and she prepares this simple but tasty treat by mixing equal parts peanut butter, marshmallow crème, and light corn syrup. You can vary the mixture: for instance, if you prefer more marshmallow crème, put more of that in. Mix this all very well and you get a delicious spread that Elizabeth serves after church. Some of the men even eat it on sandwiches.
5) Amish Peanut Butter Church Spread
1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Marshmallow Creme
1 Cup White Corn Syrup
Mix/stir all ingredients together. Use as a spread on bread slices.
6) Amish Peanut Butter Church Spread
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup water
1 teaspoon maple extract
2 cups peanut butter
1 (16 ounces) jar marshmallow creme
Boil together the brown sugar, water and maple extract. Mix together the peanut butter and the marshmallow creme. Then combine together the both mixtures until blended and smooth. Use as a spread on bread slices.

Just got back from Amish country, would you like a recipe?
Amish Peanut Butter Spread
(This is so good on fresh bread!)
2 Cups Brown Sugar
1 Cup Water
2 Tablespoons Light Karo Syrup
2 Cups Smooth Peanut Butter
2 Cups Marshmallow Fluff
1/4-teaspoon Maple or Vanilla flavoring/extract (Optional)
Heat Brown sugar and water and corn syrup in pan (stirring as needed) until boiling; remove from heat and let cool. Place Peanut butter and Marshmallow fluff in mixing bowl, pour brown sugar mixture on top, add flavoring if you want and mix with electric mixer until smooth.
9) Amish Peanut Butter Spread
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup peanut butter, smooth
1/4 cup marshmallow creme
dash of maple flavoring as desired
For the Peanut Butter Spread, be sure to taste as you add the ingredients...you may find you want more/less of something. Taste before adding maple flavoring and add a bit as you stir. This is a personal preference in taste. I find I like to add the peanut butter and marshmallow cream first. Then I drizzle the corn syrup in a little at a time until I find the taste I can live with. The same with the maple flavoring.......
In a bowl, mix corn syrup, peanut butter and marshmallow creme until thoroughly combined. Store in an air-tight container.
10) This is a recipe that I use.
1/2 c, creamy peanut butter
1/4 c. marshmallow creme
1 c. light corn syrup
In a mixing bowl, stir in the ingredients together till combined. Place in a covered container. Store in fridge. Bring to room temp to serve as a bread spread or ice cream topper. I have also put it in the microwave to soften it up before using. Enjoy!
11) Here you go. This is one I posted before.

When I took a trip to Shipshewana, In. (Amish country with flea markets, auctions and wonderful craft and collectible shops) this past Fall, I ate at a place called The Blue Gate Restaurant where they serve great Amish Family Style cooking. They had homemade bead on the table along with this great peanut butter. Of course I had to end up buying some in their little shop after the meal. Here is a recipe that closely resembles what I ate and bought. (They used their own maple syrup and corn syrup, but this is a good clone).
Amish Peanut Butter
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. molasses
1 cup water
1 - 18 oz. jar of peanut butter
1 - 8 oz. jar of marshmallow creme
Boil together first 4 ingredients for 2 minutes, cool then add peanut butter and marshmallow creme. Stir until blended. Serve with homemade bread, but any bread will do. Very Good!!
NOTE: Try maple or corn syrup instead of molasses for a little changed flavor.
12) Das Dutchman Essenhaus Peanut Butter Spread
This is the one they use at Das Dutchman Essenhaus. The waitress there explained how they made it and gave me this recipe.
16 oz. peanut butter
1 1/2 c. karo syrup
1 1/2 c. marshmallow cream
1/4 c. hot water
Mix all ingredients together until creamy.
Use as much Karo/water as you need to make it to desired consistency. They have also used pancake syrup and karo -
the pancake syrup makes it very sweet. They serve it in squeeze bottles on the table for their fresh breads and muffins.
13) This one is from the Shipshewana cookbook….It was submitted by M.L. Acres Homestyle Banquets.
Peanut Butter
10 lb. peanut butter
9 qt. marshmallow cream
6 cups brown sugar
6 cups white sugar
6 cups water
1 lb butter
2 tsp. maple flavoring
Heat the sugars and water until just about boiling. Melt the butter and mix the remaining ingredients together.
14) We just take approx. (I don't do any measuring-just guess) 1 cup peanut butter, 2 tblsp. marshmallow creme and add maple syrup until it runs off a knife. ADDICTIVE!!
15) I generally add a little more peanut butter, and use the extra crunchy Jif. It's awesome!

1 teaspoon hot water

from CLARKSTON, MI
We lived near an Amish community. They always serve Church Peanut Butter Spread with their homemade breads and rolls at their pig roasts and fundraiser dinners. I had to have a recipe of it and found one in an old Amish cookbook. This is wonderful on bread, rolls and heated to a more saucy consistency in the microwave (10 seconds), is unbelievable as a topping for ice cream. A little goes a long way.
1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1 stick butter
2 c marshmallow fluff
1 18oz. jar creamy peanut butter
*the fluff is found in the ice cream topping aisle of
your grocery store.
1. In a saucepan, stir together brown sugar and butter. Heat until mixture begins to form bubbles. In large bowl, spoon in fluff and peanut butter. Pour hot sugar mixture over peanut butter and fluff. With mixer on low blend everything together. The peanut butter and fluff will melt in the sugar mixture to a creamy consistency.
2. Store like you would peanut butter. Keep it in a microwavable container so you can heat it in microwave for 30-40 seconds to make it into an ice cream topping consistency. Otherwise it will be a nice spreadable consistency for bread. I made this up and stored in 12 oz. canning jars. Sold the jars for $5 a piece at a fundraiser with my phone number if they wanted to order more. This makes a great gift with the recipe attached to jar.
