Easy Caramel Cake

List of Ingredients
2 cups cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter, at room temperature
1 1/3 cups sugar
3 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Penuche icing:
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup whole milk or half-and-half
3 cups powdered sugar (approximately)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Recipe
To make the cake:
Heat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x13" baking pan. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. Using an electric mixer, beat butter until fluffy. Add sugar as you continue to beat, stopping the mixer occasionally to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl. Add eggs 1 at a time. Continue to beat, scraping the sides of the bowl before you add the next egg. Combine milk and vanilla. Add flour and milk alternately to butter mixture, beginning with about 2/3 cup flour, then half the milk, repeating so that you end with the last of the flour. Scrape batter into pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cake
Is light brown on top. Cool.
To make the icing:
Combine butter, brown sugar, salt and milk in a medium-sized, heavy saucepan. Stir until the butter melts and sugar dissolves over medium-low heat; you don't need to get it really hot. Cool to lukewarm. Use an electric mixer to beat in powdered sugar. Add vanilla; beat until smooth. Spread over cooled cake. The icing will set up in 30 minutes or so to be firm enough to cut through. Serves 15.
