    Recipe Introduction

Mrs. Franke of New Baden in Egypt (Illinois) says, "The recipe was given to me by my grandmother, Hilda Scherer, of Mascoutah. She told me the recipe was at least 250 years old when her mother handed it down to her."

    List of Ingredients

    6 eggs
    2 cups sugar
    2 cups crushed soda crackers
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1 pound English walnuts, chopped
    1/2 pound dates, chopped

    Recipe

Preheat oven to 350°F. Separate eggs and reserve yolks for another purpose. Beat whites stiff, gradually adding the sugar. Gently stir in crackers and baking powder. Fold in walnuts and dates. Pour into a buttered and floured 13x9" pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes until very lightly
browned. Cool. Serve with whipped cream.
