A 1950 Bisquick ad featured Betty Crocker's "1-2-3 Cooky" recipe. This recipe was promoted as "thrifty" because it cost 5 1/2 cents to make a dozen cookies and a large box of Bisquick yielded 390 cookies.
1 cup peanut butter
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
2 cups Original Bisquick® mix
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons sugar
Recipe
1. Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, mix peanut butter and milk until smooth. Stir in Bisquick mix and vanilla until blended.
2. Shape dough into 1 1/4" balls. Roll tops in sugar. On ungreased cookie sheet, place balls, sugar sides up, 2" apart. Flatten in crisscross pattern with fork dipped in additional sugar.
3. Bake 7-9 minutes or until centers are set and bottoms are light golden brown. Do not overbake. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool 15 minutes. Makes 4 dozen cookies.
