Recipe Introduction
"Some flowers can make nice additions to our favorite foods. Like daylilies, they're used in many Oriental dishes and it's amazing what culinary feats the Italians can create with squash blossoms. And then there is the nasturtium. Now I've eaten a lot of flowers and many of them can taste pretty bland, but not the spicy little nasturtium bloom. This is a simple recipe that makes good use of these flowers and it just takes a few basic ingredients. Try this delicious nasturtium cheese spread on your favorite snack crackers." Allen Smith
List of Ingredients
1/2 cup chopped nasturtium blooms
(1) 8 oz. package of cream cheese
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
nasturtium blooms for a garnish Recipe
Select blooms for the dip. Make sure the nasturtiums you select have not been treated with any chemicals while they were growing. For a vibrantly colorful dip, pick scarlet or orange flower petals. Rinse the blossoms in cold water to keep them fresh and crisp. Then chop a half a cup of flowers. Put them into a blender or a food processor. Add an 8 ounce package of cream cheese and a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Blend thoroughly, occasionally scraping the cheese off the side. Transfer mixture to another bowl and garnish it with a few extra blooms. Keep it chilled until you're ready to serve with crackers or vegetables.
