1 Serving SOFT-BOILED EGG
Source of Recipe
Eating Cheap - a cookbook by Peter Bendfeldt
List of Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- cold water
- 1 slice toast
Instructions
- Place egg in a small saucepan.
- Pour water into pan, enough to cover egg.
- Remove egg from pan.
- Bring water to boil.
- Turn heat down. We want hot water, but not boiling hot.
- Hold egg under warm faucet water to warm egg. Placing a cold egg into hot water may cause it to crack.
- Place egg on spoon and lower it into hot, but not boiling water.
- Cook egg in hot but not boiling water for 5 minutes.
- Empty hot water out of pan. Add cold water to cover egg to stop the cooking process.
- Strike egg with a knife to cut it in half. Use a spoon to scoop the soft-boiled egg out of the shell. Discard shell.
- Place scooped out egg on toast or buttered toast. Squish egg with a fork, and spread over toast. Cut toast into pieces and eat with a fork. Even better if sprinkled with salt and pepper.
- If the egg is SOFTER than you like, NEXT TIME cook it for an extra 1/2 to 1 minute.
- If the egg is HARDER than you like, NEXT TIME cook it for 1/2 to 1 minute less time.
