    Bloomin' Onion

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
    • 1/2 tsp black pepper
    • 1/4 tsp. oregebo
    • 1/8 tsp thyme
    • 1/8 tsp. cumin
    • 1 Giant Spanish onion
    • oil for frying


    Instructions


    1. Beat the egg and combine it with the milk in a large bowl.(You will putting the onion in here later)

    2. In a seperate bowl combine the dry ingredients.

    3. NOW it's time to slice the onion: 1st slice 3/4" to 1" off the top and bottom. Remove papery skin. Use a thin knife to cut a 1" diameter core out of the center.2nd use use a very large sharp knife to slice the onion several times ( 16 to be exact ) down the center to create the petels.DO NOT CUT ALL THE WAY THRU !!!

    4. Spread the petels of the onion apart and dip into milk mixture; then coat liberally with the dry ingredients.

    5. Seperate all the petals and make sure they are all coated.

    6. Repeat the dipping procedure to " double dip" the onion.

    7. Refrigerate the onion for at least 15 minutes.

    8. Heat enough oil in a deep fryer to cover the onion.

    9. Fry onion right side up for 10 minutes or until it turns brown*



    Final Comments


    Serve with dipping sauce found in my sauces category.
