List of Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. oregebo
- 1/8 tsp thyme
- 1/8 tsp. cumin
- 1 Giant Spanish onion
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Beat the egg and combine it with the milk in a large bowl.(You will putting the onion in here later)
- In a seperate bowl combine the dry ingredients.
- NOW it's time to slice the onion: 1st slice 3/4" to 1" off the top and bottom. Remove papery skin. Use a thin knife to cut a 1" diameter core out of the center.2nd use use a very large sharp knife to slice the onion several times ( 16 to be exact ) down the center to create the petels.DO NOT CUT ALL THE WAY THRU !!!
- Spread the petels of the onion apart and dip into milk mixture; then coat liberally with the dry ingredients.
- Seperate all the petals and make sure they are all coated.
- Repeat the dipping procedure to " double dip" the onion.
- Refrigerate the onion for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat enough oil in a deep fryer to cover the onion.
- Fry onion right side up for 10 minutes or until it turns brown*
Final Comments
Serve with dipping sauce found in my sauces category.
