    Debbie's Christmas Caramels

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 stick real butter
    • 1 stick corn oil margarine*
    • 1 1lb box brown sugar
    • dash of salt
    • 1 Cup Light Karo syrup
    • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla


    Instructions


    1. In a large heavy pan melt butter and margarine*

    2. Add brown sugar and salt.

    3. Stir in Karo and mix well

    4. Very gradually drizzle the entire can of milk in and stir constantly.

    5. Cook and stir over medium heat to 245 on candy thermometer. ( about 15 minutes)

    6. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

    7. Pour into a 9" square pan.

    8. Cool til firm ( overnight is best )

    9. Put on a cutting board and cut into squares



    Final Comments


    * This recipe turns out best when I've used 1 stick butter and 1 stick corn oil margarine. DO NOT USE ALL CORN OIL: CARAMELS WILL NOT SET.
