    Caramel Toffee Bars

    List of Ingredients




    1 can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
    1 beaten egg
    1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
    1 cup cold butter
    1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    2 cups flour
    25-30 unwrapped caramels (unwrap before baking crust)
    1/2-1 cup toffee bits

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350°.
    In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and egg, then cut in 1/2 cup butter until crumbly (I used my pastry blender).
    Stir in nuts.
    Reserve 2 cups crumb mixture, press remainder firmly in a 9x13 greased pan and bake 15 minutes.
    In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk and remaining 1/2 cup butter.
    Pour over prepared crust.
    Top with reserved crumb mixture.
    Then top with toffee bits all over the top of bars.
    Bake 20 minutes (don't over bake).
    Cool.
