Christmas: Debbie's Christmas Caramels

List of Ingredients
- 1 stick real butter
- 1 stick corn oil margarine*
- 1 1lb box brown sugar
- dash of salt
- 1 Cup Light Karo syrup
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- In a large heavy pan melt butter and margarine*
- Add brown sugar and salt.
- Stir in Karo and mix well
- Very gradually drizzle the entire can of milk in and stir constantly.
- Cook and stir over medium heat to 245 on candy thermometer. ( about 15 minutes)
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Pour into a 9" square pan.
- Cool til firm ( overnight is best )
- Put on a cutting board and cut into squares
Final Comments
* This recipe turns out best when I've used 1 stick butter and 1 stick corn oil margarine. DO NOT USE ALL CORN OIL: CARAMELS WILL NOT SET.
