List of Ingredients
- 1/4 cup flour
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1-2 lbs stew meat cut into chunks
- 1 Tbls.oil
- 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 cups water
- 1 large onion sliced
- 1 tsp. marjoram
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 pkg (10oz) frozen caoot slices
- 1 pkg (10oz) frozen peas
- DUMPLINGS:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 Tbls. oil
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour and salt and pepper. ( set aside 2 Tbls.)
- Add meat to bowl and toss to coat.
- In a 6 qt. dutch oven brown the meat in oil.
- Stir in tomato sauce, water and reserved flour mixture.
- Add onion, marjoram and bay leaf. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and cover and simmer for 2 hours.
- Add carrots and peas and cook for 30 minutes more until vegetables are tender.
- Remove and dispose of bay leaf.
- For dumplings, combine the flour and baking powder.
- Stir in milk, egg and oil.
- Drop by Tablespoonfuls onto stew.
- Cover and cook for 15 more minutes.
- Serve immediately.
