Tomatoes: Old Fashioned Scalloped Tomatoes

List of Ingredients
-1 chopped onion
-1/2 stick of butter or margarine
-28 ounce can of diced tomatoes
-5 slices of bread, lightly toasted
-1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Recipe
-Cook onion in butter just until tender, but not browned.
-Pour into a bowl with the tomatoes.
-Cut very lightly toasted bread into small cubes and add.
-Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine well.
-Pour into a greased casserole dish and bake 45 minutes.
-Don't try to use raw tomatoes since the flavor will not be the same.
-If you cook them first, then you can use them.
-It will take about 3 1/2 cups of cooked tomatoes to equal the 28 ounce can.
