    List of Ingredients




    1 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup molasses
    2 eggs
    5 cups flour
    1 T cinnamon
    1 T ground ginger
    2 t baking powder
    1 t baking soda
    1 t salt
    1 t nutmeg, freshly grated

    Recipe



    In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
    Beat in molasses and eggs.
    Combine dry ingredients, gradually add to the creamed mixture.
    Divide the dough into thirds and wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
    Flour the surface you will be rolling the dough on.
    Flour the rolling pin as needed.
    Roll and cut your cookies.
    Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
    Cool and ice.
    For construction grade gingerbread, omit the baking soda and powder.
