16 slices white bread, crusts removed
Slices ham or Canadian bacon
Slices sharp cheddar cheese
6 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white or black pepper
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup minced green bell pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (1 to 2 tsp.)
Dash Tabasco sauce
3 cups whole milk
1/4 lb. unsalted butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup crushed corn flakes
Recipe
Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Arrange 8 slices of bread in the bottom of the dish.
Top each slice of bread with 1 or 2 slices of ham, and cheddar cheese.
Cover with the remaining 8 slices of bread (so you have 8 sandwiches).
Beat eggs, salt, and pepper.
Add mustard, onion, bell pepper, Worcestershire, Tabasco, and milk.
Pour the egg mixture over the sandwiches.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning, melt the butter and pour over top.
Top with crushed corn flakes. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour at 350°F.
Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Serves 8.
