Almond Brittle

1/2 c. corn syrup
2 c. sugar
3 tbsps. margarine
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. water
1 c. blanced almond halves
1 tsp. vanilla extractRecipe
Combine first 5 ingredients in heavy saucepan.
Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly.
Stir in almonds.
Cook covered, over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until steam washes sugar crystals from side of pan.
Cook over high heat to 300 to 310 degrees on candy thermometer, hard-crack stage.
Stir in vanilla.
Pour onto buttered baking sheet. Let stand until firm.
Break into pieces.
Makes 1 3/4 pounds.
