List of Ingredients 1/4 cup shortening 1 cup milk, scalded and cooled 1 cake compressed yeast or 1 envelope active dry yeast 1/4 cup warm water 1/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 egg, well beaten 2 1/2 cups flour (or enough to make a moderately stiff dough) Butter Instructions Add shortening to milk while the milk is still warm. When milk has cooled, dissolve the yeast in water and add to milk. Stir in egg. Combine dry ingredients. Add to milk mixture. Mix well and let stand in bowl for about 20 minutes. Knead for a minute or two and fill buttered muffin pans about 2/3 full. Let ris until about double in size. Bake in a hot oven (425 degrees) until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Brust with butter after removing from oven. Makes 1 1/2 dozen.
