Mamma's One-Hour Rolls #1
Dick remembers his mother's rolls. He used to make them, too. When the kids were little and had a snow day from school, Dick also had a "vacation" from the office. He often made bread--what a treat!
List of Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups plain flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 package yeast
Instructions
- Sift dry ingredients together in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening and egg.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to flour mixture.
- Knead until smooth. Roll on floured board. Cut with biscuit cutter and fold in half.
- Place on greased baking sheet. Brush with melted butter. Place in a warm place to rise for an hour.
- Bake at 400 degrees until brown, 15-20 minutes.
Final Comments
Dick is absolutely passionate for good rolls. We rarely have them because the butter we slather on them just isn't good for us.
