    Mamma's One-Hour Rolls #1

Dick remembers his mother's rolls. He used to make them, too. When the kids were little and had a snow day from school, Dick also had a "vacation" from the office. He often made bread--what a treat!

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 1/2 cups plain flour
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup shortening
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup warm water
    • 1 package yeast

    Instructions

    1. Sift dry ingredients together in mixing bowl. Cut in shortening and egg.
    2. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to flour mixture.
    3. Knead until smooth. Roll on floured board. Cut with biscuit cutter and fold in half.
    4. Place on greased baking sheet. Brush with melted butter. Place in a warm place to rise for an hour.
    5. Bake at 400 degrees until brown, 15-20 minutes.

    Final Comments

Dick is absolutely passionate for good rolls. We rarely have them because the butter we slather on them just isn't good for us.
