Mamma's One-Hour Rolls #2
Of the two recipes I found in Mamma's notebook, I have no idea which she preferred. Both look highly usable to me.
List of Ingredients
- 1 package dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups flour
Instructions
- Add yeast to warm milk; also add sugar and shortening. Stir well.
- Mix in egg, salt, and flour.
- Let rise 15 minutes. Work down with spoon and let rise another 15 minutes.
- Shape into rolls; place into a well-greased muffin pan. Let rise 15 minutes.
- Bake for 15 minutes in a 400-degree oven.
Final Comments
I'm sure Mamma buttered the tops of the rolls as soon as they came out of the oven.
She made a small note about 2 1/2-inch muffin pans. I guess that would be the large size and I think she probably made 1 roll per muffin cup. I imagine these would also do placed side by side in a square baking pan.
