    Mamma's Rizin' Biscuits

    Talk about olde South!


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 1/2 cups flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 5 tablespoons shortening
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1 package yeast
    • Melted butter


    Instructions


    1. Bring buttermilk to room temperature. Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water (I would guess that 1/2 cup would be sufficient, but I'll play with up to 1 cup until I like the outcome.) When dissolved, add to buttermilk.
    2. Sift flour, soda and salt. Mix with buttermilk mixture.
    3. Roll dough out very thin and cut small biscuits. Brush each with melted butter and place on one on top of another.
    4. Arrange double biscuits on baking sheet. Let rise 1-1 1/2 hours.
    5. Bake at 400 degrees until brown.
