Mamma's Rizin' Biscuits
Talk about olde South!
List of Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 5 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 package yeast
- Melted butter
Instructions
- Bring buttermilk to room temperature. Dissolve yeast and sugar in lukewarm water (I would guess that 1/2 cup would be sufficient, but I'll play with up to 1 cup until I like the outcome.) When dissolved, add to buttermilk.
- Sift flour, soda and salt. Mix with buttermilk mixture.
- Roll dough out very thin and cut small biscuits. Brush each with melted butter and place on one on top of another.
- Arrange double biscuits on baking sheet. Let rise 1-1 1/2 hours.
- Bake at 400 degrees until brown.
