Mamma's Chicken and Dumplings

List of Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/3 cup milk
- Fresh-ground pepper
Instructions
- Cut shortening into flour; add milk to form a moist dough.
- Drop by spoonfuls into boiling stock.
- Stock: Add chicken to cold water; bring to a boil; add quartered onion, carrot and fresh ground pepper and salt to taste. Simmer until chicken is tender and comes off the bones easily.
- Return chicken to pot. Bring back to a boil before adding dumplings.
- When all dumplings have been added, reduce to simmer and cook about 20 minutes.
