    Onion Sauce

This may be cooked on top of the stove or in a crockpot. The result is a caramelized onion sauce that goes well with meats, pasta, or rice.

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 pounds onions, preferably Texas Sweet or Vidalia
    • 2-3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
    • Vegetable oil

    Instructions

    1. On stove top, combine onions and sugar. Saute in a small amount of oil. Simmer on very low about 3 hours.

    2. Crockpot directions: Combine onions and sugar. Cook on HIGH one hour. Reduce heat to LOW. Cook 24-36 hours.

    Final Comments

The crockpot method has become my favorite. Just set it and forget it. Onions are finished when they are a deep mahogany color.

I package them in pint-sized freezer bags. This recipe is great added to soups and stews as well as the suggestions above.
