    Deluxe Bread Pudding

    Source of Recipe

    Betty Crocker (copyright year: 1969)

    List of Ingredients

    • 4 slices bread
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
    • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    • 1/3 cup raisins
    • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
    • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • Dash of salt
    • 2 1/2 cups milk, scalded

    Instructions

    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 1 1/2 quart casserole.

    2. Toast bread slices lightly. Spread with butter; sprinkle with brown sugar and then cinnamon.

    3. Put 2 slices of toast together, making 2 sandwiches. Remove the crusts and cut each sandwich into 4 rectangles. Arrange rectangles in single layer in casserole; sprinkle with raisins.

    4. Blend eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla and salt. Gradually stir in scalded milk; pour over toast rectangles. Place casserole in a pan of very hot water (about 1-inch deep).

    5. Bake 65 to 70 minutes or until inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Remove casserole from water. Serve warm or cold.

    Final Comments

This is fantastic with apples pieces replacing some or all of the raisins! Use a firm baking apple.

    Yields 6-8 servings
