Buttermilk Biscuits
In my humble opinion, I make great biscuits. Here is the recipe that I have created. My Hubby agrees that these are the best.
List of Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/3 cup fat (butter, Crisco, or lard)*
- ½- 2/3 cup buttermilk
- Melted butter
Instructions
- Blend dry ingredients. Cut in fat until crumbly. Stir in enough buttermilk to make a medium soft dough, not too wet. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead only enough to hold together. Pat out ½ inch thick and cut with a floured cutter. Place on baking pan with sides just touching. Brush tops with melted butter. Bake 400°F. 12 to 15 minutes or until golden.
Final Comments
*I use 2 tablespoons lard and 4 tablespoons
Crisco. I make them in a convection oven and bake until the bottoms are crisp. Can't be beat with country gravy.
