Mom's Shredded Wheat Bread

2 cups water -- boiling
2 shredded wheat biscuits -- shredded
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup molasses
3 tablespoons shortening
1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
6 cups all-purpose flour
Pour the 2 cups boiling water over the 2 shredded wheat biscuits. Add the sugar, salt, molasses and shortening; let cool.
Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water. Combine with the above ingredients, adding 6 to 7 cups flour until batter forms a firm dough. Cover and let rise until doubled. Knead and divide. Place each loaf in a greased 9-inch loaf pan; cover and let rise again until doubled. Bake 15 minutes at 425 F. reduce heat to 375 F. and continue baking 20 to 30 minutes.

NOTES : Mom used to bake this bread several times a week.....it is so good and makes wonderful toast!
