Sour Cream Gingerbread

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2/3 cup thick sour cream
3 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup dark molasses
1 egg
Mix and sift dry ingredients in a bowl. Heat sour cream; remove from heat and add butter and stir until melted. Add molasses. Beat the egg and pour into sour cream-butter ingredients gradually, beating constantly. Add this to the dry ingredients, mixing only enough to make a smooth batter. Pour into a buttered 8-inch square pan and bake at 350 F. for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
Serve warm with whipped cream or a warm lemon sauce.
