Sour Cream Twists

1/4 cup water -- warmed
1 package active dry yeast
3/4 cup sour cream -- warmed
3 tablespoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
2 tablespoons shortening
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in remaining ingredients except for last three; mix into dough-like consistency and turn out onto floured surface. Knead several times. Roll into an oblong, 24x6-inches. Spread with the 2 tbsp. of butter. Sprinkle half of dough with a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon. Fold dough lengthwise to cover brown sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cut into 1-inch strips. Hold strips at each end and twist in opposite directions.
Place on greased baking sheet 2-inches apart. Cover and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 375 F. for 12 to 15 minutes.
Cover with glaze while still warm.
Glaze: Mix powdered sugar and alittle milk together to a drizzly consistency.
