    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    1 1/2 cups salad oil
    2 cups sugar
    3 eggs
    3 cups all-purpose flour -- sifted
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    2 teaspoons vanilla
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    3 cups apples -- diced
1 cup pecans or walnuts -- chopped

    1/2 cup margarine
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup evaporated milk

Combine sugar and oil thoroughly. Add eggs, flour, salt, soda, vanilla and cinnamon; mix well. (The batter will be very stiff.) Stir in the apples and nuts by hand. Pour batter into well-greased tube pan. Bake at 350 F. for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. (Important: Be sure to test with wire cake tester clear to the bottom of pan.)

Frosting: Combine and cook about 4 minutes over medium heat. Beat with mixer until creamy. Pour over cake.
