3 slices day-old white bread -- crumbled
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup milk
2 pounds meat loaf mixture
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons flour
1 can condensed beef broth
1 cup cream or half and half
Combine bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper, nutmeg and milk in a large bowl; let stand 10 minutes. Stir in the meatloaf mixture until well blended; form into 1-1/2" balls. Brown in butter or margarine in a skillet. Remove with slotted spoon and place in a 10-cup baking dish.
Blend flour into drippings in pan; cook, stirring constantly until bubbly. Stir in beef broth and cream; continue to cook and stir until sauce thickens. Boil 1 minute; pour over the meatballs. Bake in slow oven, 325 F. for 30 minutes. Serve over hot cooked rice or buttered noodles.
