    Cheese Straws

    List of Ingredients






    1 lb sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated
    1 3/4 c flour
    1/4 lb real butter, not margarine, room temperature
    1 tsp salt
    1/4 to 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

    Recipe




    Combine all ingredients and mix until creamy.
    If necessary, a few drops of water may be added to make the dough firm.
    Divide dough into 2 equal portions.
    Roll each portion to thickness of 1/4 inch.
    Cut into strips approximately 6 inches long and 3/8 of an inch wide.
    Twist each strip, then place on cookie sheet.
    Place in freezer for 15 minutes or longer as needed to maintain shape.
    Preheat oven to 350 during last 5 minutes of freezing time.
    Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

    May be served hot or cold.

    Makes about 5 or 6 dozen straws.
