This is delicious! Nice texture and good flavor.
List of Ingredients
1/2 c evaporated milk
1/2 c water
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c sugar
3 eggs, room temperature
2 tbsp butter, melted
1 tbsp wheat gluten, optional
4 1/4 c flour (bread or all purpose)
3 tsp instant yeast
Topping:
2 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp sugar*
Recipe
Lightly beat eggs.
Place ingredients in appropriate order for your bread machine.
Select the dough setting and start.
When cycle is done, remove and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. From dough into an oval. Place in a lightly greased large bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
Without punching down, turn dough over and let rise again, covered, for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
Place on a lightly oiled surface. Form into 2 loaves and place in oiled bread pans. Allow to rise until doubled in size, about 20 to 30 minutes.
Preheat to 400.
Bake for 20 minutes or until nicely browned.
Remove from oven and place on a wire rack.
Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Let cool.
NOTES:
I used large eggs and real butter.
Original recipe did not call for wheat gluten, but I used all purpose flour and added gluten.
For the topping, I brushed the melted butter around the entire loaf and then sprinkled it all over with vanilla sugar.
Makes 2 loaves.
