    Confederate Coffee Cake

    List of Ingredients




    1/2 c butter, softened
    1 c sugar
    1/2 c milk
    3 eggs
    1 1/2 c flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    cinnamon (about 1/2 tsp, as desired)
    nutmeg (about 1 tsp, divided, as desired)
    chopped nuts - almonds, pecans or walnuts, optional
    1 tbsp butter, thinly sliced
    1 tbsp sugar (I did not add)

    Recipe



    Preheat to 350.

    Cream together the 1/2 c butter and 1 c sugar

    Add milk and unbeaten eggs, mixing well.

    Sift the flour and baking powder together - must sift for the right texture. Blend sifted ingredients into the creamed mixture. Add a dash of nutmeg.

    Pour into a 9 x 5 bread pan.

    Sprinkle the top with nutmeg, cinnamon, nuts and sugar. Dot with butter.

    Bake at 350 for 40 to 45 minutes.

    NOTES:

    I did not add sugar to the top, it was sweet enough without it.

    I would suggest pouring half the batter, doing half the spices, then repeat. I sliced the tbsp of butter with a vegetable peeler to make very thin pieces for the top.
