    Teen Time Chocolate Bars

    Source of Recipe

    Betty Crocker, Cooky Book

    Recipe Introduction

This is from an old Betty Crocker cookbook. I adapted it a little bit for my family.

    List of Ingredients

    1 c brown sugar *
    1/2 c butter
    1/2 c milk
    1 generous tsp vanilla****
    1 1/4 c flour** (I used 1 1/2 cup flour, see note)
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/4 tsp baking soda
    1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips ***
1 c coarsely chopped nuts (I omitted nuts)

    Recipe

    Preheat to 350.
    Combine sugar, butter and milk in saucepan;
Bring to just boiling while constantly stirring,
Remove from heat and allow to cool 5 minutes.

Combine flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda; mix well.

In a mixing bowl, beat eggs.
Add COOLED butter mixture to eggs and beat.
    Add vanilla and beat.
Add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if using.

    Grease a 9 x 13 baking pan.
Pour batter into pan, spreading evenly.
Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
    Cool. Cut and enjoy.

    Notes:

*original recipe called for 1 c brown sugar
**this batter was SO runny, I added another 1/4 c flour
*** I used bittersweet chocolate chips
**** Vanilla was not in the original recipe
I used real butter, lactose free milk and large eggs.
I baked for about 28 minutes.

Be sure to allow the milk mixture to cool for 5 minutes. The chocolate melts when added to the warm mixture.

    Very easy and very good.
