    Chocolate Streusel Bars

    Recipe Introduction

    Wow! These are good. They are very rich but not overly sweet.

    List of Ingredients

    1 3/4 c flour
    1 1/2 c powdered sugar
    1/2 c cocoa
    1 c cold butter
    8 oz package cream cheese, softened
    14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
    1 egg
    2 tsp vanilla
    1/2 c chopped walnuts, optional

    Recipe

    In mixing bowl, combine flour, powdered sugar and cocoa.
    Stir well to mix.
    Cut in cold butter with pastry blender until the mixture is crumbly - it will be dry.
    Reserve 2 cups and spread the rest evenly in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.
    Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
    While that bakes, beat the cream cheese until fluffy.
    Slowly beat in sweetened condensed milk until well combined and mixture is smooth.
    Add egg and vanilla and mix well.

    When crust has baked 15 minutes, pour cream cheese mixture evenly over the baked crumbs.
    Sprinkle the reserved crumbs evenly over the cream cheese mixture.
    Bake for 15 more minutes or until bubbly.
    Remove from oven; cool completely then chill.
    Cut into bars. Cover and refrigerate.
    Makes 24 (or 36 really small) bars.

    Notes:
    I lightly greased the baking pan.
    I used unsalted butter and a large egg.
    I did not use walnuts.
