Apple John
An oldie but a goodie.
List of Ingredients
6 tart apples
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
3/4 tsp salt
1/3 c sugar
2 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 c butter
2/3 c milk
Recipe
Peel, core and chop apples.
Spread in a greased 12 x 18 baking dish.
Combine sugar, spices, and salt.
Sprinkle mixture over apples.
Sift flour and baking powder together.
Cut the butter in with a pastry cutter until it is coarse crumbs.
Add the milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
Place on a floured board and knead for about 20 seconds.
Roll out and place over apples.
Brush with milk.
Bake at 425 for 25 minutes.
Serve hot.
