    Bon Appetit Scratch Baking Made Easy

    Recipe Introduction

    Great flavor and not hard to make.

    List of Ingredients

    Single crust:
    1 1/3 c sifted flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 c shortening
    2 - 3 tbsp water

    Double crust:
    2 c sifted flour
    1 tsp salt
    3/4 c shortening
    3-4 tbsp water

    Recipe

    Combine flour and salt in mixing bowl.
    Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender (or 2 knives).
    Work until the dough is uniform and pieces are the size of smll peas.
    Add water slowly and mix until dough forms a smooth ball.
    For double crust, divide dough into two balls.

    For unfilled baking:
    Place in pie dish and flute edges; prick bottom and sides numerous times with a fork.
    Bake at 425 for 10 to 15 minutes or unil lightly browned.

    For filling: do not prick dough and bake as pie directions are given.
    To prevent a soggy bottom crust, paint with a lightly beaten egg white before filling.

    Notes - I use butter flavor Crisco.
