    Servings: 6-8
    Prep time: 1/2 hour
    Cook time: 15-20 minutes
    Total time: 45-55 minutes

    1 can sour pie cherries
    1/2 can water
    1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar (depends on your taste)
    1/4 tsp almond extract

    Dumplings:
    2 tblsp butter
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 1/2 cups flour
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 cup milk
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1/4 tsp fresh grated nutmeg






    Recipe




    Place first four ingredients into 3 qt pan, bring to a boil. Make dumplings.
    Cream together butter and sugar.
    Sift flour and baking powder.
    Add to creamed mixture, alternately with milk and vanilla. Grate in nutmeg.
    Once mixed, drop by spoonfuls into hot cherry sauce.
    Cover pan and cook on med low (keeping small bubbles bubbling), without looking for 15-20 minutes.
    Serve with whipped cream and slivered almonds.
